PBS Prescriber Bag Arrangements

  • Certain medications can be provided to eligible prescribers without charge for emergency or urgent patient use under the Australian Government’s Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS).
  • Orders must include a signed Prescriber Bag Supply Order Form completed in triplicate; originals and duplicates are to be provided to the approved supplier (licensed pharmacy) as required by PBS rules.
  • Prescribers may only order up to the PBS-specified maximum quantity for each item provided they do not already hold the maximum amount; these items can only be obtained once per month under PBS regulations.
  • A receipt must be signed by the prescriber or authorised representative upon receipt of supplies.
  • Eligible prescribers can obtain the Prescriber Bag Supply Order Book via Health Professional Online Services (HPOS) using their PRODA account. Further information on linking and use of HPOS is available on the Services Australia website.
  • DocPouch supports the administrative ordering process but does not itself provide or dispense medicines; all dispensing and supply are performed by a licensed pharmacy in compliance with PBS legislation.
  • Users should consult the official PBS site and Services Australia for detailed legislative requirements — including the relevant sections of the National Health Act 1953 and associated PBS regulations — as these may change over time.
